As of 1st March, Atmedia sales house will introduce the movie and series TV channel CANAL+ Action into its portfolio which will complement other thematic TV channels in the atmax, atadults and atchoice business packages. From the same date, the TV channel will also be involved in the official electronic TV audience measurement.
“By including CANAL+ Action in our portfolio of thematic TV channels, we deepen our partnership with the CANAL+ media group, whose other TV channels – FilmBox and FilmBox Stars – we have been commercially representing on the Czech market for several years,” explains Michaela Suráková, Managing Director of Atmedia. “Thanks to this, we will offer the TV advertisers an opportunity to reach a wide group of viewers between the age of 20 and 60 who do like to watch action films or crime series,” she adds.
Apart from Spektrum Home, CANAL+ Action is another TV channel that will expand Atmedia’s thematic TV channel portfolio from March 1st this year. Atmedia sales house will now be the commercial representative of 28 thematic TV channels on the Czech market, 24 of which are involved in the official electronic audience measurement. These include both Czech as well as local television channels of global brands. Movie and series TV channels do have the largest representation in the Atmedia portfolio, closely followed by documentary, lifestyle, sports, kids’ and family channels.
From the Czech TV channels to name Seznam.cz TV, Rebel, Relax and TV channels from the Czechoslovak Film Society Group (CS Film, CS History, CS Mystery). Of the multinational television groups, Atmedia cooperates with Warner Bros. Discovery (Discovery Channel, Eurosport 1, TLC), AMC (AMC, Film+, Minimax, Spektrum, Sport 1, TV Paprika, Spektrum Home), CANAL+ (FilmBox, FilmBox Stars, CANAL+ Action), Walt Disney Company (Disney Channel, National Geographic) and Antenna Group (AXN). The Slovak TV group JOJ (JOJ Family, JOJ Cinema) also has a significant position in the Atmedia portfolio.
Thematic TV channels, which are commercially represented by Atmedia on the Czech market, had a 5.1% share of viewership in the 15-69 target group last year. They reached an average of 1.4 million TV viewers aged 4+ daily, with 37% of TV viewers turning on one of them at least once a week and 58% at least once a month.[1]
Focused on Fans of Action Movies or Crime Series
The new CANAL+ Action channel will offer some selected titles exclusively premiered in the Czech and Slovak Republic – for example, on the eve of the Academy Awards in March, it will broadcast the action comedy Everything Everywhere All at Once, which is nominated for an Oscar in 11 categories. The audience will thus be able to fully enjoy the current hit film that is garnering admiration and praise not only by film-goers, but also by movie critics.
In addition to the premiere titles, CANAL+ Action will also present the popular action evergreens full of star actors. In March, it’ll broadcasted highlights such as the blockbusters Expendables 2: Back to War and Escape Plan with Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and other legends. During the first broadcasting month, it’ll also screen the Oscar-winning movie The Revenant with the award-winning Leonardo DiCaprio, or the highly rated Canadian series Plan B about what can happen when going back in time and changing the course of events.
“The CANAL+ Group worldwide offer is largely based on attractive sports broadcasting, movies and series. Of course, it always depends on the local situation, but we do believe that this combination can definitely work here quite well. After last year’s successful entry into the field of sports broadcasting, this year we would also like to establish ourselves in the field of films and series. Due to its wide popularity and compatibility with sports, the action genre seems ideal for the start,” says Ladislav Řeháček, VP of CANAL+ Luxembourg for the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
